Tasks Update Summary - Oct. 2009
General Overview
Much of Greg's time is spent on locating and researching new projects as well as new partners for existing projects.
Focus in October
- Hesperian - Digital Advisory Committee meeting (DAC) - will be speaking with Hesperian about the digital workflow and the Digital Commons - 2 weeks ago we had a meeting with Srini and Matt, so we'll be following up on that
- Coordinating the workflow project with the Where There Is No Doctor project including the wiki based review for the Table of Contents
- ebrary.com - a potential distribution partner for Hesperian - they publish digital books and have subscribers in over 130 countries.
- allows viewing and searching of pdfs
- Ashoka - for the past month have been talking with them about doing a survey of their existing fellows who are using mobile technology - Alison is helping out with setting up a pilot project - a wiki has been put together as well as some questions to be used to find out from the fellows the common infrastructure that would be useful to them as well as to other social entrepreneurs so that not everyone needs to reinvent the wheel
- Recently spent time coordinating between Saq, Crag and Andreas regarding recent problems with the TiddlyWiki server and data loss
- Updated contract with Crag in order to allow him to be more proactive with monitoring and, also, updating procedures
- Met with Victor Colunga (CFO of UM) about UM financial situation, which is reasonable but focus needs to be placed on addition of more partners and financing of projects
- Time has been spent looking into partnership opportunities
- a group developing technologies for scanning docs as well as looking at innovations for education and healthcare - a preliminary project that might lead to additional work
- Pivot Learning Partners
- Health Metrics
- Will be following up with the Acumen Fund on the Pulse project to see if they're ready to look into how UM could help support the free version
- Put together the UM quarterly newsletter
- An UM Board meeting will be organized for November
- UM Blog
- adds posts regarding UM projects and philosophy as well as projects by other organizations which have similar goals
- responds to comments
May 2009
General Overview
Greg's efforts are generally not "visible" via sites where his participation is logged or monitored. Most of his contact takes place via private emails. He's working on creating a way to make his efforts more open and visible.
Recently he has cut back his time at Ricoh in order to focus more on UnaMesa.
On a daily basis, he manages email.
One day/week is set aside for tasks such as adding blog posts, project followup, etc.
Meetings with UM associates and/or UM partners/potential partners take place on a weekly basis.
Focus
- UnaMesa
- Project development and keeping projects moving forward
- Hesperian - this project has grown larger than initially expected, so a majority of time recently has been spent here.

- Where There Is No Doctor - help with creating wiki which will be used for collaboration on the next version, beginning with the Table of Contents (TOC)

- Contact development - new partnerships and collaborators
- DataDyne - encouraging them to participate in the Forms Repository
- InSTEDD - Virtual Interactive Classroom (VIC)
- K4H (Knowledge For Health) - has been introduced to them through Hesperian contacts - possible future collaborators and/or source of info regarding best methods for projects such as Hesperian's Where There Is No Doctor
- Team Based Mentoring - working with Gunnar on developing a site
- Conferences
- Attended the NTEN Conference
- UM Blog
- adds posts regarding UM projects and philosophy as well as projects by other organizations which have similar goals
